THE 6 STEPS YOU’LL NEED TO SET UP YOUR WEBSITE
1/ PURCHASE A DOMAIN NAME
A domain or domain name is your unique address on the internet. It’s your website’s URL (e.g.juliej130.sg-host.comm.au). You can find out if the domain name you want is available and purchase it from somewhere like Namecheap!
2/ CHOOSE YOU HOSTING PROVIDER
Choosing a reliable website host is crucial when starting a WordPress website, because it has a significant impact on website performance, speed and site security. A great website host will also have a helpful support team ready to help you when you run into any website issues.

3/ Point your domain name to your host
After registering your domain name and purchasing hosting, the next step is to connect your domain to your new web hosting service by updating the domain name servers (DNS). This process, known as “changing nameservers,” varies slightly depending on where you purchased your domain and which hosting service you’re using. If you’re using a different hosting provider, reach out to their support team, let them know you’re ready to point your domain to their servers, and they’ll give you the necessary nameservers and instructions. It’s a quick and easy process, typically taking just a few minutes, though it may take 24-48 hours for the changes to fully propagate.
4/ INSTALL WORDPRESS AND LOG INTO YOUR DASHBOARD
There are two ways to log into your WordPress dashboard.
1. Direct method (fastest). Visit your domain + /wp-admin. For example, mywebsitename.com/wp-admin. That will bring you to the WordPress dashboard login page where you can log into your website.
2. SiteGround method. Log into SiteGround and click on the Websites tab. Click on Site Tools. Go to WordPress > Install & Manage. Under Actions, click the icon that looks like an arrow through a door. That will automatically log you into your WordPress dashboard.
WordPress is usually installed for you automatically and you will have created and received the login info to your WordPress dashboard. If you’re unsure, just check with your host and they will point you in the right direction!
